A Man Empties A Sack Into The Garbage

The sack is filled with the outsides of things:
orange peels, pencil shavings, candy wrappers,
ripped condom jackets, straw sheaths, yogurt containers.

I’d like to see an avocado or peach pit fall
from the sack. There is no avocado
or peach pit falling to even things out.

I want to even things out. But everything emptied
into the garbage is now on the inside.
The man, his sack empty, wants someone

to stop him from what he is about to do in the young
night, the night still clutching the hand
of its mother.
